WHY SKATEBOARD?
An Individual Team Sport Without Competition
At Impact, kids participate in a physical activity that is more art than sport, while addressing far more than just physical health. Skateboarding requires resilience, determination, and creativity, without the limits of competition.
A welcoming environment of peers motivates personal growth; challenges are met with enthusiasm; support comes from an inclusive community of skaters, and the benefits extend to all other areas of life.
Kids of All Temperaments Can Thrive
One reason skateboarding attracts such a wide range of kids is its uncommon structure. It is artistic in the variety of styles and endless possibilities—at the same time it demands a unique type of athleticism.
In our programs, otherwise aggressive kids tend to adjust their behaviour to cooperate with staff and other participants. Shy, more reserved children feel comfortable since they are encouraged to work at their own pace, and develop their own personal style. Parents of children who are typically resistant to activities, camps, and sports are pleasantly surprised at their child’s enthusiasm for Impact programs. That's because is challenging, engaging, and fun!
Why Impact?
We are the only non-profit organization in Toronto that makes skateboarding accessible to children and youth of all backgrounds, while providing programming that addresses physical, emotional, and mental health. Impact is geared toward educating participants about themselves and the world around them; we use skateboarding as a vehicle to achieve social change, and the effects have been tremendous!
A big part of Impact's mission is to provide free programs to children and youth facing economic barriers to sports programs. We believe that every child can benefit from what skateboarding has to offer, and we provide access to our programs to as many people as possible.
How You Can Partner With Us
Impact helps children to understand self-esteem, and the importance of being true to oneself. Things like dealing with frustration, interpersonal conflict, and community stewardship are key aspects of skateboarding. All have real implications in everyday life. Kids are empowered when they are encouraged to meet challenges and achieve their goals with excellence. Learn more here.
