Majestic Sk8 Crew Documentary

Today at camp we took some time at lunch to watch a short doc about @majesticsk8crew, and it was amazing! What followed was a group discussion about representation in skateboarding (and beyond). As boys and men, we might not experience discrimination or intimidation because of our gender in a skateboarding environment, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a very real experience for others.

We spent some time discovering our own biases and assumptions about skaters—who they are, what they look like, how they dress—and challenged those by talking about the many exceptions to these ‘rules’. We also talked about why representation is important, considering that the ‘playing field’ is rarely level.

Even though some of these kids are as young as 6, I’m always impressed by their insights and ability to piece together complex scenarios. Stoked to spend the entire day skating and learning with this awesome crew!
